Wagga Wagga Australia Day Award nominees announced - 8 January 2016

Nominees for the 2016 Wagga Wagga Australia Day Awards have been revealed ahead of the ceremony to be held on Monday 25 January.

There are 10 nominees for Citizen of the Year and two for Young Citizen, along with three nominations for the prestigious Walk of Honour.

No nominations that met the criteria of the award were received for the Ted Ryder Memorial Sports Award.

“It’s great to see so many outstanding members of our community recognised with nomination for an award,” Wagga Wagga City Council Event Coordinator Karly Pieper said.

“The Australia Day Awards are a fantastic way to honour the hard work and dedication the people of our community do to make the city a better place.”

The awards ceremony is just one event during what is set to be a fun-filled celebration of activities over the Monday and Tuesday in the city.

“It will be a jam-packed couple of days,” Ms Pieper said.

“There will be something for everyone, whether it be the Picnic at the Oasis, the awards on the Monday night, or enjoying the various events and activities to be held at the Wagga Beach precinct on Australia Day itself.

“The upgraded beach will be the perfect backdrop for markets, a free breakfast, free amusements, the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and entertainment for all of the family.”
