New adult-change facility opens in Wagga Wagga

Community members living with a disability and their carers now have access to a purpose-built adult change facility in the heart of Wagga Wagga.

The Marveloo is a lay down, adult change facility built and installed by Wagga Wagga City Council at the Bolton Park precinct.

Director Community Janice Summerhayes said the inclusive facility offers peace of mind for community members who are out and about in Wagga.

“The Marveloo is a safe, clean and comfortable facility that effectively removes barriers for people with disabilities who are away from their home and have specific changing needs,” she said.

“The highly visible location allows easy manoeuvrability of wheelchairs and devices to and from the carpark, and is close to nearby shops and services.

“Council worked in consultation with members of the Wagga Access Reference Group to ensure the facility meets the needs of the community.”

Leisure Company CEO Libby Clohessy said the Marveloo is an excellent addition to the community facilities available to people with a disability in Wagga Wagga.

“It provides opportunities for families and people confined to a wheelchair to have facilities available to them, the same as all residents of Wagga Wagga,” she said.

The Marveloo will also be useful to travellers driving along the Sturt Highway.

Access to the Marveloo is through the use of a Master Locksmith Association Key, an Australia-wide key system that allows entry 24 hours a day.

The Marveloo project was identified in Wagga Wagga City Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan (2017 – 2021), a road map to increasing access and improving the liveability of the city for people with disabilities.

• height adjustable adult change table
• accessible toilet
• reverse cycle air conditioning and heating
• access ramp and automatic door
• four CCTV security cameras and lighting are installed on the perimeter
• transportable for use at other locations and events
