Biodiversity Strategy

Wagga Wagga City Council is developing a Biodiversity Strategy, aiming to enhance biodiversity within the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area (LGA).

The strategy will act as a key document that outlines how Council and the broader community can enhance biodiversity across the LGA by developing a range of objectives and actions that address a wide range of issues impacting biodiversity.

Council is asking the community to share their ideas for the future and feedback either in person or online until 13 December to help develop the Biodiversity Strategy.

“We want to know how Council and the community can enhance biodiversity within Wagga Wagga and why it is important to you,” Biodiversity Strategy Project Officer Sam Pascall said.

“We have held some consultation sessions in October, which will continue in November and the community can also share their thoughts online or in writing.

“Biodiversity is important because it supports the healthy functioning of the environment. The Wagga Wagga LGA is home to a mix of native birds, reptiles, mammals and native flora, which can be put under pressure from fragmented habitats, pest animals, and weed species.

“This strategy will look at both the high level and everyday things Council and the community can do to enhance our natural environment into the future.”

To help inform the draft Biodiversity Strategy, visit Council’s online community engagement platform waggaview.com.au/biodiversity and join the conversation before 13 December.

Community members can also talk to Council staff at the Sustainable Living Festival on 2 November, a community drop-in session from noon to 2pm at the Civic Centre on 8 November and at the Rewild Community Markets on 16 November.

The community’s thoughts will inform the draft Biodiversity Strategy, which is placed on public exhibition in March 2020 for further feedback.
