Education is taking stage at the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre

Council’s Civic Theatre Manager Claire Harris playfully posed the question“What do dinosaurs, a dancing kangaroo, an immersive cultural ceremony, star-crossed lovers, and a mischievous pet rat have in common?”

The answer? They’re all part of the 2025 Education Season at Wagga Civic Theatre – a lineup that promises young audiences a wild, wonderful ride through story, spectacle, and imagination.

With the curtains set to rise on Ratburger, Josephine Wants to Dance, Detention, and Imagine Live, this year’s program is bursting with fun, meaning, and plenty of chances to laugh, think, and be amazed.

2025 is already on track to be the theatre’s biggest Education Season ever, with more schools than ever getting ready to bus in students for a dose of live performance and over 5000 kids engaging with theatre in one season.

More than half of this season’s audience will be children, and the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre is not only putting on a show, but also making sure every student can take part, regardless of their circumstances.

Through financial contributions made through the Helping Hands community giving program, the theatre is able to help cover the cost of tickets and transport for some families doing it tough.

Local efforts, like the theatre’s Return and Earn bottle collection program, also contribute funds directly into this program, linking sustainability with access and inclusion at the Civic Theatre.

“We want every child to feel like they belong at the theatre,” Ms Harris said. “Through the Helping Hands Program, we’re making efforts so that financial barriers don’t stop any student from experiencing the magic of theatre.”

The Civic Theatre also understands that the theatre can be intimidating if you’ve never been before.

To help, they’ve introduced a ‘social story’: a visual guide to help students know what to expect before they even step off the bus.

It explains where to go, what they’ll see, and how the day will run, giving every student the confidence to enjoy the show, stress-free.

While the 2025 Education Season hasn’t kicked off just yet, there is theatre magic in the air.
