Investigation underway into euthanasing of dog at Glenfield Road Animal Shelter - 1 June 2015
Wagga Wagga City Council is investigating the circumstances surrounding the euthanasing of a dog at the Glenfield Road Animal Shelter.
“The micro-chipped and registered dog was prematurely euthanased prior to the expiry of the 14 day legislated period mandated under the Companion Animal Act,” Wagga Wagga City Council General Manager Phil Pinyon said.
The Boxer/Staffy cross was impounded on 15 May and was incorrectly euthanased on 28 May.
“Council has personally notified the dog owners of the incident today and has apologised for the incident,” Mr Pinyon said.
“The staff member involved has been stood down pending the outcome of an investigation into the incident. Appropriate action will be considered once the investigation is complete.
“Council takes breaches of legislation seriously and an internal review of the current process is being undertaken to ensure incidents like this do not re-occur.”
