A new package of roadworks will be undertaken in Wagga Wagga in the new year, continuing the rollout of Council’s major roadworks rehabilitation program that began in January 2024.

At its Ordinary Meeting on Monday 16 December, Councillors accepted the offer of Fulton Hogan Industries for a package of rehabilitation works at various locations in Wagga Wagga.

Council has identified eight locations across the city and suburbs for the road rehabilitation works: Ziegler Avenue, Tobruk Street, Tobruk Street/Ashmont Avenue intersection, Undurra Drive, Saxon Street, Hampden Avenue, Fay Avenue and Cootamundra Boulevard.

Director Infrastructure Services Henry Pavitt said this latest package is part of the 2024/25 pavement in-situ stabilisation and asphalt wearing course program.

“Over the past 12 months Council, in conjunction with contractors, has been undertaking a major program of civil works across our local government area,” Mr Pavitt said.

“This has included a large scope of asphalt works to repair, rehabilitate and renew several key connector and heavily used roads and intersections, as well as general suburban roads.

“The aim of these works is to transform our roads by enhancing both safety and the overall driving experience for motorists.”

A schedule of works for the new package will be developed once the contracts have been finalised, but it is anticipated that it will get underway in January 2025.

The completion of these works is funded from within Council’s recurrent Pavement Rehabilitation Program, along with the Federal Government’s Roads to Recovery.

Meantime, the same contractors are currently working on package of pavement rehabilitation-stabilisation works that includes Vincent Road, Kyeamba Avenue, Featherwood Road, Raye Street, Main Street, Reddoch Drive, and Miller Avenue.

Separately, Council has also accepted the tender of Nelmac Pty Ltd for the replacement of a timber bridge over Kyeamba Creek on Killick’s Road, just west of Tumbarumba Road.

The contract requires delivery of a new, 4.8-metre-wide bridge to replace the existing single-span timber bridge.

This project is being funded as part of Round 4 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure grant received from the Australian Government.
