Special event to mark Earth Hour in Wagga - 19 March 2015

There’s less than a week left to RSVP for the Earth Hour Plus One event, which will be held at the Museum of the Riverina Botanic Gardens site on Saturday, 28 March.

More than 7000 cities in 162 nations will take part in Earth Hour this year and Wagga Wagga City Council is collaborating with the Australian climate change action group 1 Million Women to host a free event next weekend.

Local members of 1 Million Women or anyone interested in learning about the impact of climate change will hear from Dr Andrew Wallace, who will present the latest findings on how climate change will impact the region and how you can make a difference.

“Women make 85 per cent of the consumer decisions in the household, so if we can empower women to make small but smart changes to the way they purchase and consume then we can make a real difference,” Council’s Environmental Education Officer Alice Kent said.

“Following the presentation by Dr Andrew Wallace, participants will enjoy wine and cheese by candlelight as we join millions of people around the planet to mark Earth Hour.”

The Earth Hour Plus One event will be held from 7pm to 9.30pm at the Museum of the Riverina Botanic Gardens site, while Earth Hour itself will take place around the globe between 8.30pm and 9.30pm.

Contact Janette Downey on 1300 292 442 or downey.janette@wagga.nsw.gov.au to RSVP for the event by Wednesday 25 March.
