Mayor supports push for grains research in Wagga - 18 May 2015

The Mayor of Wagga Wagga, Rod Kendall has welcomed a push by the Federal Government to move the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) to Wagga Wagga.

The Federal Minister for Agriculture, Barnaby Joyce, has confirmed that Wagga Wagga is the Government’s preferred site for the GRDC, as formal consultations with staff and stakeholders on the proposed relocations begin.

“Wagga Wagga City Council strongly supports a relocation of the Grains Research Development Corporation head office from Canberra to Wagga Wagga. It will be great for our economy and could potentially create hundreds of jobs for our city,” Mayor Kendall said.

“We will work closely in consultation with the grain industry to ensure a smooth transition from Canberra.

“It is great news, and we look forward to GRDC making our city their home.”

A final decision on the relocation of identified agencies is expected by the end of the year.
