Nominations open for the Sporting Hall of Fame

The City of Good Sports is looking for the next inductees to the Sporting Hall of Fame.

Nominations open tomorrow, with members of the community able to nominate local sporting heroes.

If the new candidates are selected, they will join world class athletes such as Sally Shippard, Mark Taylor and Steve Mortimer in the Hall of Fame.

“Wagga Wagga is known as the City of Good Sports and there are many sportspeople who have reached the pinnacles of their careers and are deserving of a nomination for induction into the Sporting Hall of Fame,” Mayor of the City of Wagga

Wagga Rod Kendall said.

“Acceptance into the Sporting Hall of Fame reflects the valuable contribution the nominee has made to their sport and to Wagga.”

Located at the Museum of the Riverina Botanic Gardens site, Wagga Wagga City Council established the Sporting Hall of Fame in 1993 to recognise the outstanding achievement of local athletes who have reached the highest level of their chosen sport.

Nomination forms for Sporting Hall of Fame inductees will be available from the Civic Centre Customer Service desk or online at www.wagga.nsw.gov.au/sportinghalloffame.

Nominations close at 5pm, Friday 11 December.

Following the close of nominations, applications will be assessed by the Sporting Hall of Fame Panel.

The announcement of any Hall of Fame inductees will be made at the city’s Australia Day Awards ceremony in January.
