Wheels now in motion for new Tolland skate park - 22 February 2016

Kids will soon be able to get some big air and try out some gnarly tricks with a brand new skate park now under construction at Chambers Park in Tolland.

Skateboarders, scooter users and BMX riders will be able to test their skills on grind rails and boxes, banks and three quarter pipe ramps, one 800mm with a slide rail, another, 900mm with a bent penny.

The skate park also includes seating, bins and water fountain, and complements the Park’s 12-month-old play equipment, existing basketball courts, cricket nets, oval and sheltered seated areas.

Community consultation for the skate park concluded in August 2015. A design was then developed and will now take shape over the next four weeks, weather permitting.

“The skate park adds another great recreational element to Chambers Park and aims to make the site a popular destination for kids, families and even those adults who are young at heart,” Director Environmental and Community Services Janice Summerhayes said.

“Parks and recreational facilities are key components to any city. They add to the liveability of the city, are visually appealing and help with child development.”

The Tolland skate park will be the fifth in Wagga, with one at Henwood Park in Kooringal, Bolton Park in Central, Webb Park in Ashmont and William Street in North Wagga.

“Skate parks have certainly grown in popularity for kids and youth. They provide a safe, public place for boarding or riding and help promote active lifestyles,” Mrs Summerhayes said.

The Chambers Park skate park is due for completion at the end of March.
