Council to plant rose in support of McGrath Foundation - 4 May 2016
Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga, Cr Rod Kendall, alongside two local McGrath Breast Care nurses will plant a Jane McGrath Rose at the Botanic Gardens tomorrow to celebrate Mother’s Day and highlight Council’s support for the McGrath Foundation.
Celebrated on May 8, this year Mother’s Day will be marked in the Australian calendar just four days after what would have been McGrath Foundation co-founder Jane McGrath’s 50th birthday.
“Since 2005, the McGrath Foundation has supported more than 44,000 families experiencing breast cancer across Australia, with more than 1000 of those families located in Wagga Wagga,” Mayor Kendall said.
“We’re so delighted to be showing our support for the McGrath Foundation by planting a beautiful light pink Jane McGrath Rose this Mother’s Day as they help so many families through uncertain times.
“We’re encouraging the entire community to join council members and our two local McGrath Breast Care Nurses at the David Jones Memorial Rose Garden located in the Botanic Gardens to take part in the rose planting ceremony,” he said.
The Jane McGrath Rose is specially bred for Australia’s hardy conditions.
