Roads and Maritime Services and Wagga Wagga City Council advise motorists and pedestrians of changed traffic conditions at the Docker Street and Brookong Avenue intersection in Wagga Wagga when new traffic lights are switched on at 10am on Wednesday 2 August.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesperson said the traffic lights are part of the Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital redevelopment which will better manage the flow of traffic and improve road user safety in the busy medical precinct.

“Roads and Maritime has worked closely with NSW Health’s contractors and Wagga Wagga City Council throughout the redevelopment project to ensure this intersection has been designed to meet the highest safety standards for all road users and pedestrians,” the spokesperson said.

“The phasing of the new traffic lights will be linked to the traffic lights at the Docker Street and Sturt Highway intersection to ensure the smooth flow of traffic along Docker Street. The phasing will be based on traffic volumes and will be monitored by Roads and Maritime and adjusted as required.

“These new lights will provide improved pedestrian safety with timed red arrows for turning vehicles at the intersection.”
Wagga Wagga City Council General Manager, Robert Knight, said improved safety in the area was important.

“This project is part of the redevelopment of the Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital and will ensure the best pedestrian safety in the medical precinct.

“Wagga Wagga City Council has worked in conjunction with NSW Health and Roads and Maritime to help coordinate and complete the installation of the new traffic lights on this council maintained road,” Mr Knight said.

“In addition to increased pedestrian safety, council has also installed new line marking along Docker Street, which will improve safety for motorists at the site."

Roads and Maritime and Wagga Wagga City Council thanked the community for their patience during this important improvement work.
