Spring has sprung and what better way to feel the warm breeze in your hair than from the comfort of a bike?

Local cyclist and Wagga Wagga City Council’s Parks and Recreation Officer Rob Owers is encouraging everyone to jump on a bike during NSW Bike Week.

“Whether you ride for miles on a road bike or prefer hitting jumps on your BMX there are a range of tracks and trails around Wagga Wagga you can explore,” he said.

“It’s also a great way to get from A to B whether you’re going to and from work or picking up a couple of things from the shops.

“To help you get started pick up your free reflective slap wrist bands, bike bumper stickers and key chain lights from Council’s Customer Service Desk during NSW Bike Week.”

Council is committed to improving the city’s cycling network through the Active Travel Plan – Cycling, and has submitted a funding application to the State Government to help kick-start the process.

Council’s Team Leader Visitor Economy Fiona Hamilton says cycling is fast becoming a big draw card for the city with plenty of high profile events running every year.

“The recent Lake Run and Ride was again a success this year and we have events such as Gears and Bears and the Golden Wheel Track Racing Carnival coming up in October,” she said.

“As well as these events cycling is a popular way for tourists to check out our city’s beautiful scenery and other attractions.”

NSW Bike Week is held 16-24 September and is proudly supported by Transport for NSW.
