Sydney FC to bring pre-season matches to Wagga Wagga

Wagga is set to host another top level national league football match this year following a partnership with Sydney FC to play A-League and W-League pre-season games in the city.

Wagga City Council resolved at its Monday 8 July Ordinary Meeting to enter into an agreement with Sydney FC to play a W-League (women) pre-season game this year and an A-League (men) trial match in 2020.

Both matches are expected to be against Newcastle Jets at McDonald’s Park – the same ground which hosted more than 10,000 fans at the highly-successful NRL Raiders-Penrith match in Wagga earlier this year.

Health and Knowledge Precinct Master Plan on public exhibition

Council has partnered with NSW Government’s Department of Planning and Environment to develop a Health and Knowledge Precinct Master Plan within the city’s health and medical services area.

Council has approved to place the draft plan on public exhibition for 60 days to allow community and stakeholder consultation and feedback.

Report to focus on Climate Emergency Plan

A report will be prepared and presented to Wagga Wagga City Council in August addressing the development of a Climate Emergency Plan for the city in the 2019-20 financial year.

A Notice of Motion by Councillor Vanessa Keenan recognising that “climate change poses a serious risk to the people of Wagga Wagga” was passed by Council last night.

Councillors represent Wagga at conferences

Mayor Cr Greg Conkey OAM and Cr Dan Hayes presented their reports to Council after attending the Australian Local Government Association Conference in Canberra from June 16-19.

Cr Conkey said one of the more startling comments came from President of the Local Government Association of NSW, Linda Scott, who said $30B was needed to replace ageing local government infrastructure in addition to the demand to build new infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Cr Conkey was endorsed as the city’s representative to attend the Inland Rail Conference in Toowoomba on 21-22 August this year, and Cr Rod Kendall will attend the 2019 Local Government NSW Water Management Conference in Albury on 2-4 September.

Waste disposal subsidies for local groups

Council has endorsed a total of $3,900 in annual waste disposal subsidies for local charitable organisations and community groups seeking relief from waste disposal fees at Council’s Gregadoo Waste Management Centre.

The groups include Wagga Wagga Baptist Facilities Inc, Sisters Housing Enterprises Inc, Anglican Opportunity Shop, St Vincent de Paul Society and Best Friends Pet Rescue.

New fire fighting vehicle for Gregadoo waste centre

Council has approved a new fire fighting vehicle for Gregadoo Waste Management Centre.

Tenders will now be called for the fabrication and supply of a multi capability fire fighting vehicle which will also be used for dust suppression on roads and wetting down activities.

Support for club’s licence application

Council has voted to support Wagga Tigers Australian Football and Netball Club’s application to change their liquor licence from a limited licence for multiple functions to a Registered Club Licence.

This change would authorise the club to sell liquor to a member, or member’s guest, of their club for consumption on or away from the licenced premise, similar to other licenced clubs in Wagga.
