Recently Wagga Wagga City Council unanimously voted to sponsor the 2020 Mardi Gras Festival to the tune of $20,000 from the 2019/20 Major Events Sponsorship budget.
Earlier this year, the inaugural Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras attracted 39 groups for the momentous march, with a strong crowd of approximately 10,000 spectators and supporters.
Next year’s festival is expected to be even bigger and better, set to run over three days, beginning with a drag night on 13 March. The highly anticipated parade will take place on 14 March, followed by the rainbow recovery breakfast on 15 March at the Victory Memorial Gardens.
Registrations are now open for the “city’s biggest party”, the 2020 Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras.

Meanwhile, Mardi Gras wasn’t the only community event to receive support from Wagga Wagga City Council.
Councillors also agreed to provide $15,000 in sponsorship to the Murrumbidgee Turf Club’s ‘MTC Rocks the Racetrack’ event to be held on 16 November and $5,000 to Wagga Harness Racing Club’s ground-breaking, 2020 Group 1 carnival in April 2020.
The prestigious program of racing will be the first at Group 1 level for any code in the Riverina and will feature four $100,000 races.
