Forging new pathway to active travel along Red Hill Road

Are you in need of a little bit of extra incentive to dust the cobwebs off your bike, and make the most of this glorious spring weather?

Well, the chance to test out Wagga Wagga City Council’s shiny new cycling pathway could be just the motivation you need to step it up a gear.

In an exciting coup for the wider community, Wagga Wagga City Council is close to unveiling the Red Hill Link of the city’s Active Travel Plan.

“We are nearing the completion of the western section of the Red Hill Link from Yentoo drive to the Glenfield Road roundabout,” Council’s Strategic Asset Planner Ben Creighton said.

“Council will have a rolling delivery program of the different links over the next 18 months.”

Tree pruning commenced along the Red Hill portion of the Commuter Cycling Network in August in preparation for crucial drainage works.

“We undertook side drainage works to improve water flow over the pathway,” Project Engineer Gyanendra Regmi said.

“If water was to pool over the pathway, it would eventually damage the surface – decreasing the lifespan of the pavement.”

Council is preparing for a second stage of work along Red Hill Link from Glenfield round about to Holbrook Road.

“Our contractor is currently completing the asphalt surface,” Mr Regmi said.

Line-marking is expected to begin along the impressive new pathway in about a fortnight.

Wagga’s Commuter Cycling Network is expected to be completed in 2021, providing resident with 45 km of high-quality cycling paths that will criss-cross the city.
