Two facilities planned to enhance Wagga Wagga’s Active Travel cycleway network have been approved to proceed to the next stage.

Wagga Wagga City Council recently awarded the contract for the design and construction of the two “end of trip” facilities to be located close to the CBD.

They will be constructed at the Oasis Regional Aquatic Centre in Morgan Street and the Visitor Information Centre in Tarcutta Street.

Council awarded the $297K project to Ladex Construction Group at its 29 June Ordinary Council Meeting.

Project Manager Rupesh Shah said the new facilities will add to the Active Travel shared pathways network and provide benefits to the community.

“The facilities will support people who cycle to work rather than driving or taking public transport and will encourage community to use non-motorised transport, promote a healthy, more active community and reduce reliance on cars,” Mr Shah said.

The end of trip facilities include toilet and shower area, lighting, wall mounted bike racks, enclosed bike lockers, bicycle maintenance station, e-bike charging stations and water drinking station. The lockable facility will have electronic swipe card access.

CCTV will also be installed in the area to enhance security.
