Tidy up for winter with hard waste service

Residents keen to tidy up and declutter their homes before the winter months can take advantage of Wagga Wagga City Council’s hard waste collection.
Households that pay the domestic waste management service charge are eligible for one free hard waste collection each calendar year.
“We really encourage residents to take advantage of the hard waste service which is a great way to clean and tidy house before the cold weeks ahead of us set in,” Council’s Manager of the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre (GWMC) Geoff Pym said.
“It is an easy service to book and utilise. The truck comes to you on a pre-booked day and will take away up to two cubic metres of rubbish. This service also makes it easier for residents to dispose of larger items.
“Plan your clean-up day, book the truck for a pick-up and place the items at the kerbside for collection. It’s that simple and saves the time and hassle of loading up those bigger items and taking them to the tip.”
Mr Pym said some items cannot be disposed of through the hard waste service, such as hazardous materials, white goods and tyres. He said if people are unsure, want to check or have any questions they are advised to visit the yourwaste.com.au/hardwaste website or give Council a call.
Council also encourages the community to follow the Avoid, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Landfill hierarchy.
“Many items can be re-used or recycled, so have a think about that as an option too,” he said.
“Landfill should always be the last option and there are a wide range of items that you can take to GWMC for free.”
Those items include scrap metal, polystyrene, cardboard, automotive batteries, up to 100 litres of paint, up to 20 litres of motor oil, televisions and computers – all these items are accepted free of charge at GWMC every day.
