Community safety was a key topic of discussion as the Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Greg Conkey OAM hosted the city’s high school captains on Tuesday 24 November 2020.
The Mayor’s Breakfast provided an opportunity to engage with Wagga Wagga’s young residents and discuss the direction they would like to see the city take.
Cr Dan Hayes and Council Youth Development Officer Vanessa Jennings also joined in the discussion with the young leaders.
Cr Conkey said among the areas of concern identified at the event were domestic violence, drug abuse and break and enters.
"More generally they expressed disappointment over the fact COVID 19 has prevented all of the city’s major events and festivals to be cancelled this year and were looking forward to a return to “normal” in 2021," Cr Conkey said.
"The condition of the city’s roads and other infrastructure were also raised.
"Of interest to me was the fact a large number of those in attendance plan to continue their education in Wagga Wagga after leaving high school.
The school leaders will be invited back in May or June next year to participate once again in the city’s planning processes.
