Free safety checks on child car seats

Published: 25 Sep 2020 2:57pm

Wagga Wagga City Council is encouraging parents, grandparents and carers to take advantage of free child car seat safety checks being held next week.

Council, in partnership with Transport for NSW, has teamed up with authorised child restraint fitter Cotmakers to deliver the program.

Council’s Road Safety Officer Emma Reynolds said research shows two out of three child restraints are not correctly fitted or used.

“This is a great opportunity to have children’s seats professionally checked,” Mrs Reynolds said.

“Some seats are being shared from one car to another and because of this they become loose.”

The child restraint checking day will be held on Tuesday 29 September from 9am to noon, at the Wagga Beach carpark, Cabarita Park.

“When used correctly, child safety car seats significantly reduce fatal injuries for infants and toddlers,” Mrs Reynolds said.

“We service our cars, trailers and caravans; why not get your child restraints checked? They hold your most your precious cargo.”

At this event, the professional fitter will inspect child car seats to make sure they’re installed and being used correctly and also provide some handy tips on regular checks.

Places are limited and bookings are essential.  For more information or to book, contact reynolds.emma@wagga.nsw.gov.au or 6923 9544.
