City's music lovers rejoice: Outdoor shows make socially-distant return

Published: 18 Feb 2021 5:56pm

Spend the weekend of Saturday 13 March and Sunday 14 March in the open air enjoying an eclectic line-up of live music featuring local and high-profile touring musicians.

Next month the city’s spectacular Wollundry Lagoon Amphitheatre will host Fusion Amp Sessions - a micro live music program celebrating Multicultural March.

Wagga Wagga City Council’s Director Community Janice Summerhayes said people have been missing open-air live music events.

“Fusion Amp Sessions promises to bring the community together, support musicians and local creative industries like CC Productions & Entertainment as well as other small businesses impacted by COVID-19 social gathering restrictions,” Ms Summerhayes said.

“Set in the beautiful surroundings of the Wollundry Lagoon Amphitheatre and open to all ages, this program is for all music lovers in search of a relaxed, safe and fun haven to hang out with family and friends.”

At the first session on Saturday 13 March, local musician Yazidi tambour player Khairi Darweesh will open the show and then 12-piece The More Please Orchestra fronted by Costa Georgiadis, the Logie-winning host of ABC TV's Gardening Australia, will unleash their frenetic funk, diabolical disco and free-range rock’n mayhem.

On Sunday 14 March, local musician Zimbabwean percussionist Felix Machiridza will open the show followed by trio True Vibenation, who combine an irresistible blend of Soul & Afrobeat backed by big brass, big beats and live horns.

Due to COVID-19, there is limited seating capacity so book tickets early to avoid disappointment. Fusion Amp Sessions is an all-ages drug and alcohol-free event.

Fusion Amp Sessions is presented and funded by Wagga Wagga City Council, with major sponsor Origin Energy and supported by Cultural Partner Multicultural Council of Wagga Wagga

The More Please Orchestra

Perfectly Imperfect I Impossibly Possible

The More Please Orchestra are a fabled, underground, magic, realist anti-supergroup of frenetic funk, diabolical disco and free-range rock mayhem. This band of funkateers will take you for a delightfully deranged celebration in their wonderfully warped parallel universe.

True Vibenation

Big Brass l Big Beats l Live Horns

True Vibenation combine an irresistible blend of Soul & Afrobeat backed by big brass, big beats and live horns. Drawing from their African heritage and raised in the cultural migrant melting pot of Australia their sound takes influence in equal parts from Fela Kuti, Hugh Masekela and the Daptone horns as it does from Outkast, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Rudimental.
