Next step for draft planning proposal
A draft planning proposal to include artisan food and drink industries as an additional land use across the Wagga Wagga Local Government will be sent to the State Government for determination.
Council agreed to forward the proposal which seeks to amend the Wagga Wagga Local Environmental Plan 2010, and if endorsed, will then be placed on public exhibition with a further report to address any submissions.
Following a review of the proposal and the strategic merit and wider economic and tourism benefits that would result from such activities, an addendum to the planning proposal has been prepared that seeks to include artisan food and drink industries as a permitted land use within some rural and commercial zones across the LGA.
Council tonight requested a Gateway Determination from NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment.

Land zoning and lot size proposal refused
A planning proposal to change land zoning and minimum lot size provisions and introduce an urban release area for land near the Olympic Highway and Australian Army Base Kapooka has not been supported by Council.
Council agreed to the recommendation to refuse the planning proposal as it is not compatible for the intended use and inappropriate for various reasons.
These include inconsistencies with strategic direction and policy guiding documents such as the Wagga Wagga Community Strategic Plan, Riverina Murray Regional Plan 2026 and the Wagga Wagga Local Strategic Planning Statement – Wagga Wagga 2040.
