Get into the spirit of giving through our Library’s Community Food Appeal

Wagga Wagga City Library’s annual Community Food Appeal is on again this year with residents encouraged to donate non-perishable and long-life food items from Thursday 1 December.

Community members showed their generosity in 2021 donating bags filled to the brim with non-perishable food items that were distributed to help local people in need.

SHARE THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT: Manager Library Services Christine Bolton is hoping the local community will donate generously to the library's Community Food Appeal.

Manager Library Services Christine Bolton said even before this year’s appeal was officially launched, the donations were already coming in.

“We have such generous residents living across our suburbs and rural villages who really want to show their support for those who need a helping hand in our community,” Ms Bolton said.

“The Community Food Appeal gives them the chance to offer that support in a practical and useful way.”

Goods donated to this year’s appeal will be handed to The Salvation Army in the new year for distribution in the community.

The library is requesting the donation of non-perishable items which are well within their use-by dates.

Household staple items are always valued, from canned food, rice and pasta, to breakfast cereal, flour, baby formula and long-life milk.

“When you’re out doing supermarket shopping, put a few extra things in the trolley or see what spare items you might have in your pantry and then please drop them off here at the library,” Ms Bolton said.

“You can also handover any grocery items you want to donate to a library team member when they are out delivering the Agile Library service in your suburb or rural village over the next few weeks.”

The Community Food Appeal runs until 15 January 2023.
