Please donate responsibly

Planning on doing a big cleanout? Wagga Wagga City Council asks residents to donate responsibly, dispose of their waste mindfully, and report any sightings of illegal dumping.
Each year the summer holiday period sees an influx of donations to charities and tip trips to Council's Gregadoo Waste Management Centre.
Gregadoo Waste Management Centre’s Business Support Officer Tammie Cook urges residents to only donate good quality items to charity or Council’s Tip Shop, and reminds residents that rehoming or selling goods via community platforms also keeps quality items out of landfill.
“Only donate good quality items during opening hours, and if they’re closed or their donation bins are full, please don’t leave them outside,” Ms Cook said.
“Instead, try rehoming or selling goods via local community platforms and online marketplaces.
“Broken, damaged or worn-out goods will end up in landfill at a cost to charities and our environment. So, if it’s not right for donating, consider booking a Hard Waste Collection Service.”
Properties that pay the domestic waste management service charge can access one free hard waste collection per calendar year to dispose of up to two cubic metres of hard waste. This includes rental properties within the waste management service area.
“If what you want collected isn’t eligible for the hard waste service, please bring it to the tip,” Ms Cook said.
“Our fees are very reasonable compared to the potential $15,000 penalty if you get caught illegally dumping.”
Items such as sheets, towels and blankets will be happily accepted by the Glenfield Road Animal Shelter during business hours.
You can book a hard waste collection online at wagga.nsw.gov.au/waste or call Council’s waste partner JJ Richards on (02) 5942 6150.
The Tip Shop is open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 8am – 4pm. For more information head to wagga.nsw.gov.au/services/the-tip-shop
