This month, the Civic Theatre has been celebrating the people who make our city buzz and recognising the theatre as a beating heart and hive of cultural entertainment.

The theatre will launch its 2024 Season on Tuesday 5 December and it will be the first for Civic Theatre Manager, Claire Harris, who came into the role earlier this year.

“It’s important that we celebrate the joy that live entertainment brings to our city,” Ms Harris said. “The theatre really is a place for everybody and the heartbeat of our vibrant city. This social campaign helps us to have fun with that.

Community members, business owners and recognisable faces have been photographed with various hashtags celebrating live entertainment, supporting local business and enjoying a fun night out with friends.

The #HeartbeatOfTheCity campaign is hoping to breakdown some of the stereotypes around who visits the theatre and showcase the diversity of faces that enjoy the space every day.

“The theatre is more than just a show on stage, it’s a night out with friends, a date night, a first experience on stage, a workshop and for some, the social outing that they have been looking forward to all month,” Ms Harris said.

“We don’t underestimate the importance of social and cultural connection for our community. Breaking down the barriers and encouraging new people to experience the theatre, feel welcomed to our space and celebrate live experiences is important to all of us here at the theatre.”

In 2024, the theatre will deliver a season of world-class live entertainment for local audiences. It will include shows for families and friends, school excursion opportunities, hands-on workshops, live contemporary music, and major theatre companies for our avid theatre goers.

The theatre will also launch memberships in 2024 to bring a more flexible option to those who want to join the theatre community.

“We invite anyone who likes to be ahead of the wave to come along to our launch event on Tuesday 5 December. Be the first to hear what we have in store for next year, learn about our new membership offer and take advantage of exclusive presale opportunities,” Ms Harris said.
