New skatepark ramps up the holiday fun in Oura

The young and young at heart in Oura now have the opportunity to hop on a skateboard, scooter or skates and try out some tricks and manoeuvres on the village’s new skate park.

The Wagga Wagga City Council project was completed just in time for the summer school holidays.

Works and Playground Officer John Conlan said the 25-metre x 15-metre concrete and steel modular facility features up ramps, jump ramps and a quarter pipe.

“It will be a great asset for the village and its residents,” Mr Conlan said.

“The ramps are not very high so it’s ideal for those just learning the basics of skateboarding or scootering or those wanting to build on their skills and perfect those new skateboarding tricks.

“The skatepark offers a place for locals of all ages to get out and get active, have fun, and enjoy the outdoors while hanging out with friends or making new friends.”

Council undertook the project in a response to an approach from the Oura Progress Association, which indicated there was a strong desire in the community for a skatepark.

It was funded through a NSW Government 2022 Community Development Fund grant of just over $107,000, and $20,000 of Council funds.

The new skatepark is located in the open area next to the Oura Tennis Courts.

A new barbecue shelter is also being constructed nearby as part of the development of the area as a community gathering space.
