It’s time to recognise the incredible individuals who make Wagga Wagga a vibrant community. The 2025 Australia Day Awards are now open for nominations and the local community is being encouraged to submit nominations to celebrate local heroes.

Nominations are open for five categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Environmental Citizen of the Year, Ted Ryder Sports Memorial Award, and the Walk of Honour.

Council’s Events Officer Emma Corbett said it’s the perfect time to nominate a local champion, positive role model, or mentor.

“If you know someone who is making a significant contribution to the community, now is the time to give them the recognition they deserve,” Ms Corbett said.

“Wagga Wagga is a generous community, made up of countless volunteers who support a wide range of community organisations, cultural and sporting groups, youth initiatives, charities, and more.”

Ms Corbett said the Australia Day Awards ceremony is the perfect opportunity to come together to celebrate and recognise the outstanding members of our community.

Wagga Wagga’s Australia Day Awards ceremony will be held at the Civic Theatre on the evening of Saturday, 25 January 2025.

Ms Corbett said the Australia Day Awards Committee are calling on the community to make their submissions now so that a diverse range of applicants are received across all categories.

“It’s not too late to submit an application. Nominations close at midnight on Sunday 24 November 2024, and can be completed online or submitted in hard copy at Council’s Customer Service Desk.”
