The Civic Theatre launched its 2025 Season last night with a party to celebrate the huge successes of 2024 and to announce what’s in store for the coming year.

Local audiences were encouraged to infuse their social life with joy, heart and adventure in the year ahead and reminded of the impact of our theatre to the community.

Civic Theatre Manager, Claire Harris said “We don’t underestimate the importance of our theatre as a place for social and cultural connection.

“Providing an opportunity for people to share the magic of live performance with family and friends is important us at the theatre.”

In 2024, the Civic Theatre has already welcomed more than 55,000 people to over 230 events.

“The Civic Theatre is really proud to continue to bring an exciting line-up of major arts companies to our city in 2025, delivering world-class entertainment.”

In addition to the impressive list on the Theatre’s subscription season, hundreds of events and thousands of people will take to the stage next year, from local dance concerts, to touring musical artists, Wagga Comedy Fest and Sunday afternoon live music on the balcony.

The 2025 Season promises adventure and imagination with drama, comedy, dance, live music and the first Opera in the Vines event for Wagga Wagga.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Borambola Wines for a special end-of-year event for two nights only,” Ms Harris said.

The Opera in the Vines event will offer guests an unforgettable night of world-class entertainment by Pot-Pourri along with food and fine wine, all set against the stunning backdrop of the Borambola Wines vineyards. The concert will deliver the best from opera to Broadway, featuring iconic hits from Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, Carmen and more.

“This is opera for everyone; you can choose to bring a picnic and rug to sit on the grass, join a communal table or be entertained in our VIP area which will include all the bells and whistles,” Ms Harris said.

The 2025 Season includes the much-anticipated return of The Wharf Revue for their final performance ever and Gladys: A Musical Affair to satisfy those who need a laugh.

Drama lovers will be pleased to see three plays in the program including the new Australian work The Queen’s Nanny, the Tony Award winning God of Carnage and Bell Shakespeare’s classic Romeo and Juliet.

Audiences will get their fill of quality major arts organisations including the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Circa will perform Duck Pond, their cheeky reimagining of Swan Lake, and Opera Queensland will visit Wagga Wagga for the first time with their show Are You Lonesome Tonight.

Comfort Food Cabaret will see the audience serenaded by cabaret star Michelle Pearson as she creates a delicious three-course tasting menu for the audience to enjoy; and 100 Women, 100 Stories will bring 100 local women together to create a community choir. Rehearsing over a weekend, they will learn the score created by six award-winning Australian composers before performing on the stage in an uplifting concert celebrating women’s stories.

2025 will also see the important homecoming of Joel Bray Dance with Garabari, a work created in collaboration with the Wiradjuri community in Wagga Wagga.

“The work is special because it was created by Joel as an instruction from local Elders to honour a dance that had been lost. We are really excited to see this work performed on its home soil and to see our community interacting and taking part,” Ms Harris said.

The Civic Theatre is excited to include children’s shows in the season again next year. Alison Lester’s well-known story Imagine Live, David Walliam’s Ratburger, Tristan Bancks novel Detention, and the stage adaptation of Jackie French and Bruce Whatley’s Josephine Wants to Dance will all come to life on stage.

“We had so much fun with puppeteers, Erth Visual & Physical Inc this year, that we are bringing them back again in the 2025 July School Holidays with Dinosaur Zoo.
