Ride to work this Biketober

Thousands of people across the country and here in Wagga Wagga swapped work wear for Lycra and a helmet and jumped on a bike on Wednesday 16 October to take part in National Ride2Work Day.

The national event ties in with Biketober, an annual nation-wide challenge encouraging travelling and exercising by cycling.

Council’s Recreation Coordinator Joshua Walsh says Biketober is a great time for locals to enjoy the city’s Active Travel Plan (ATP) network of shared paths.

“The network already has approximately 50 kilometres of paths throughout the city for residents to use, linking our suburbs to the city centre,” Mr Walsh said.

“Using your bicycle on the ATP paths is a wonderful way to commute, save money and get in some exercise, especially now that the weather is getting warmer.”

Mr Walsh said Wagga Wagga is the ideal city and Biketober is the perfect month for making the move from four wheels to two wheels for your journey to work.

“And once you start you may find every day can be a Ride2Work day.”
