Wagga Wagga gets ready for another Wuther

Published: 17 Jul 2025 12:33pm

Have you got your outfit sorted for Wagga Wagga’s second Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever?

The event – now in its second year – involves fans of all ages, coming together at locations around the world to recreate the official music video for British musician Kate Bush’s 1978 masterpiece, “Wuthering Heights”.

It’s on this Sunday afternoon, 20 July, on the lawn near the Wagga Wagga Civic Theatre.

A rehearsal session, run by talented local dance instructor Hayley Allen-Freeman, starts at 1.30pm – just before the big performance itself, which starts at 2pm.

Council’s Community Development Officer Victoria Lowe says there’s been a lot of local interest in the event.

“We’ve had a fantastic turnout at the four free ‘drop-in’ style ‘wuthering’ dance classes we’ve held since mid-June, with 37 dancers of all-ages learning the routine at the most recent session, and online registrations for Sunday’s event are also strong,” Ms Lowe said.

“Last year we had 42 Cathys and Heathcliffs, aged between five and 89, from across the Riverina come together for our inaugural Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever, so I think we’re well on track to exceed that number on Sunday.

“And remember, wear a Kate Bush-style gown if you can, but as long as its red anything goes!”

This event is a part of Wagga Wagga City Council’s FRESH intergenerational program, which brings together all generations together to exchange ideas and gather fresh insights and perspectives.

The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever promises to be a fun community event for everyone involved.

All ages, abilities and genders are welcome. Young(er) people under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Entry is free, but registrations are appreciated. To register to take part in the event, visit wagga.nsw.gov.au/fresh or call the Council’s Community Development officer on 1300 292 442.
