Lighting up Red for Cystic Fibrosis Awareness

Published: 05 May 2025 9:32am

Wagga Wagga City Council is supporting the national Cystic Fibrosis (CF) awareness campaign this May, to help raise awareness of this life-limiting genetic condition.

From Thursday 1 May, the 19 trees on Fitzmaurice Street will be lit up in red, to demonstrate support and raise awareness of the disease.

Council’s Manager Community Services Madeleine Scully said the scheduled temporary lighting display helps raise the profile of important local, state, and national community awareness campaigns.

More than 3700 Australians live with CF, which causes the accumulation of thick and sticky mucus in the lungs, airways, and digestive system, leading to chronic lung infections and irreversible damage.

CF is an invisible condition. Currently there is no cure, so management and treatment are lifelong and require ongoing attention.

Cystic Fibrosis Australia strives to raise awareness, drive progress, and work towards a future to improve the lives of those affected by CF. For more information, please visit www.cysticfibrosis.org.au

In addition, CF Together provide a national CF Support Line that directly connects to a Social Worker or Case Manager to provide information, support, and practical assistance, on phone 1300 CF HELP (23 4357), or visit www.cftogether.org.au

Community organisations seeking to promote their upcoming health and community campaigns with temporary lighting of the trees in Fitzmaurice Street are encouraged to book their requests with Council
