Wagga Comedy Fest 2019 to serve up laughs

Published: 18 Jun 2019 4:18pm

Sold out shows with Anh Do are proving to be the perfect entrée for the 2019 Wagga Comedy Fest.

Following on from Do’s shows this week, the Civic Theatre will serve up 10 side-splitting courses of comedy from 13 to 15 June.

Tickets are selling fast for this year’s Wagga Comedy Fest, which features Becky Lucas, Lano & Woodley, Luke McGregor, Mel Buttle, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival roadshow, Randy the puppet, Rhys Nicholson, The Chaser and the Riverina Comedy Club.

The popular Winter Markets will also be back again, with hot food and free laughs on offer.

“Anh Do was one of our headlines at the first Wagga Comedy Fest in 2015, which also featured Luke McGregor, so it’s fitting to have those two back again now the festival has grown so much,” Civic Theatre Manager Carissa Campbell said.

“Tickets are starting to be snapped up as we get closer to the main part of the festival and the shows have staggered start times so you can catch as many comedians as possible.

“In between, you can enjoy warm fires, food, drinks and free entertainment at the Winter Markets outside the theatre.”

The 2019 Wagga Comedy Fest is the biggest yet and features a mix of established and emerging comedians, along with a healthy serve of local talent.

“It’s been encouraging to see the growth of Wagga Wagga’s own comedy scene over the past five years,” Ms Campbell said.

“Dane Simpson has honed his skills at the festival since 2015 and this year the Riverina Comedy Club will be hosting a night of fun at the Riverina Playhouse.

“It’s also great to have the iconic Lano & Woodley in Wagga, who are back together again with their show FLY. They took out the People’s Choice Award at the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

“Another highlight will be The Chaser and The Shovel’s War on History, which is dubbed the least reliable, but most hilarious account of Australian history.”

  • Winter Markets – Food, beverages, warm fires and free entertainment
  • The Chaser & The Shovel - The War on History is based on the book from The Chaser Quarterly and The Shovel The Completely True History of Australia. It is, by far, the least reliable, but most hilarious account of Australian history.
  • Rhys Nicholson – “one of the most remarkable talents on the stand-up circuit”
  • Luke McGregor - well known to Australian audiences as one half of the formidable team that brings Rosehaven to ABC TV. Don’t miss Luke doing what he does best… being awkward live on stage.
  • Randy – LIVE - In the past 15 years Randy has been performing his unique style of stand-up to audiences all over the world. Randy Feltface is outrageously funny!
  • The Riverina Comedy Club - featuring Wagga’s best and brightest comedians including David Cunneen, Varun Pushpan, Aidan Mungai, CJ Schmulmar and Gav Comtessi.

  • Winter Markets – Food, beverages, warm fires and free entertainment
  • Lano & Woodley (2 shows) – Fresh from sold out shows at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Australia’s favourite comedic duo are bringing their smash-hit FLY to Wagga. Don’t miss this final opportunity to see this magnificent show live!
  • Mel Buttle - “The right mix of sarcastic self-deprecation and genuine vulnerability.”
  • Becky Lucas - ‘Her style is the comedy equivalent of putting a silencer on a gun; You don’t hear the pearlers coming, you only know when they hit…her unceremonious punchlines hit dead centre every time, getting huge laughs’
