Statement from the Mayor: Kunming decision

The Mayor of Wagga Wagga City Council, Cr Greg Conkey OAM, has conveyed that the majority of Councillors are reeling that three Councillors from a total of nine have successfully passed a resolution to sever the Sister City Agreement between Council and the City of Kunming in China.

The resolution came about when one Councillor was absent due to illness and two Councillors declared a conflict of interest and left the Chamber.

With both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor not in the meeting, a Councillor was appointed Acting Chair. The voting was 3 against and 3 for the motion. The Acting Chair had casting vote and the motion was passed.

A rescission motion has immediately been put forward and will be considered at the next meeting and is expected to be passed.
