Draft flood management studies: last chance to have your say

Published: 22 Apr 2021 2:24pm

Grab your chance to provide feedback on Council’s draft flood management studies, which close for submissions on Wednesday 5 May 2021.

The studies, which consist of two comprehensive reports by flood-management experts GRC Hydro and WMAwater, focus on flood mitigation and risk management in Wagga Wagga and the villages of Uranquinty, Tarcutta and Ladysmith.

The studies relate to overland water flow, such as flash flooding, rather than riverine flooding, which was the subject of a separate peer review.

A series of one-on-one sessions were held last week, which saw representatives from GRC Hydro, WMAwater and Council meet with community members in Wagga Wagga, Tarcutta, Ladysmith and Uranquinty to discuss the reports and any concerns residents may have had about overland water flow in their area.

Council’s Director Projects and Strategy Darren Raeck said the sessions were beneficial for all involved.

“It was great to have our team available to answer questions, hear any concerns residents had, and be able to explain our flood mitigation plans in more detail,” Mr Raeck said.

“I’d encourage anyone who missed out on a one-on-one to register their interest for an online session with our team, and get their submissions in before the closing date.

“We’ll use all the feedback we receive to help shape the final documents, which will go back to Council for proposed adoption.”
