Council is encouraging residents to take advantage of free ‘Going Green’ workshops and discover the financial and environmental benefits of making the switch to reusable nappies and menstrual products.
The expert-led workshops, offered both face-to-face and online, give attendees key information about what products are available, where to find them and how to use them.
Local resident Alice Kent said the reusable menstrual product workshop she attended was a safe space to connect with other like-minded women.
‘I loved being in a supportive environment and feeling comfortable to ask questions,” Ms Kent said.
“I enjoyed hearing the experience of others and learn that my experience was not uncommon. I’ve picked up some new hints and tips to help me on my reusable menstrual product journey.
“I also really like that we are talking about periods more openly and making this very natural process less taboo. I especially think this is important for young women.
“It’s great Council is being a leader in this space in regards to the social and environmental benefits of the workshops and the rebate program. The workshop has made me even more determined to keep going on the reusable path and reduce my single-use waste generation.”
The Going Green workshops run from July to December 2021.
Council is also offering residents from the Wagga Wagga Local Government Area the opportunity to apply for a rebate after purchasing reusable nappies and/or menstrual products.
Residents can be rebated for half the cost of reusable nappies and/or menstrual products, up to the value of $100 per child/user.
The rebate trial will apply to reusable nappies / menstrual products purchased between 1 July 2021 and 1 January 2022.
