On serve! Book a game at the Forest Hill Tennis Centre

Doubles, singles, serious or social; if you are keen for a game of tennis, then book in for a hit at Wagga Wagga City Council’s community tennis centre at Forest Hill.

Council has been clearing and cleaning up the complex in Brunskill Avenue since acquiring it from the Forest Hill Tennis Club.

Strategic Recreation Officer Peter Cook said Council became involved when the club was no longer in a financial position to keep the complex open.

“They approached Council to see whether we would be interested in taking over the ownership and operation of the centre to ensure it could remain open for the community,” Mr Cook said.

“Once we acquired the courts, the first order of business was to demolish the old club house, which wasn’t being used by the community and was also unsafe due to the presence of asbestos.

“After the building was removed, we were then able to focus on cleaning up the rest of the centre, which involved removing weeds and maintaining the surface on the four granite courts.”

Council also upgraded the lighting system and integrated it into the Play Tennis online booking system.

The courts are now up and running and Council is encouraging people to book the courts to play socially.

Court hire throughout the day is free, but a small fee will apply for court hire at night to cover the cost of the lights.
