An official launch has been held to celebrate the avenue titled ‘Presentation Way’ – 93 Claret Ash planted along Bourke Street – in honour of the 150th Anniversary of the arrival of the Presentation Sisters in the region.

The Presentation Sisters proposed the concept for the tree avenue, and it was approved by Wagga Wagga City Council at its 11 March 2024 Ordinary Meeting.

The launch on Thursday 21 November was attended by the Sisters, Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Dallas Tout, Council staff involved in the project, and invited guests.

The chosen site marks the route the Sisters first took in 1874, from Mangoplah into Wagga Wagga. A plinth commemorating the event was also unveiled at the launch.

Cr Tout says the avenue is a way to acknowledge and honour the long journey the first five Sisters made from Ireland to provide Catholic education in Wagga Wagga.

“It’s also chance to reflect on the Sister’s legacy in Wagga Wagga and their continuing contribution to our community,” Cr Tout said.

“It’s important to acknowledge the profound impact the Presentation Sisters have had on Wagga Wagga, not just in education but they have helped shape the future of this city and region.”

The Presentation Sisters contributed $14,762 to the initiative, with Council contributing to the tree planting, two summers of watering, and remaining costs.

You can find the ‘Presentation Way’ on Bourke street stretching from Redhill Road to Holbrook Road.
